Music composed for or inspired by the plays of Shakespeare, including Othello by Alfred Reed, Hamlet Suite by Shostakovich, music from West Side Story by Bernstein, Suite from Henry VIII by Edward German, and Suite of Miniature Dances by Lou Applebaum. The concert will also feature our principal clarinetest Larry Moser in Rondo Variations for Clarinet and Band by Guy Wolfenden.

A pre-Christmas program for all ages featuring music from the movies Hans Christian Andersen by Frank Loesser and Walt Disney’s Fantasia, the ballets Cinderella by Prokofiev and The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, Ghost Train by Eric Whitacre, The Night Before Christmas arranged by Michael Purves-Smith, and a traditional Christmas Singalong.

Come with us to London Town and enjoy music from The Beggar’s Opera, including Kurt Weill’s Suite and Songs arranged by Michael Purves-Smith and performed by our soloists Jennifer Enns Modolo, Virginia Scarfino and Joe Schwartz. The program will also feature WW tubist Corey Rempel in Joseph Horowitz’ Concerto for Tuba and Band, Adam Gorb’s Awayday, Buxton Orr’s John Gay Suite, Eric Coates’ Knightsbridge March, and two of Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance Marches.

Our season finale will lift you with the ethereal beauty of some of the great music featuring women’s chorus including Debussy’s Trois Nocturnes, Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, Michael Purves-Smith’s Cat and the Moon, several movements from Holst’s The Planets, and the Canadian premiere performance of a movement from Johan de Meij’s Symphony of the Earth. Also featured will be WW principal saxophonist, Danielle Beck in Frank Bencriscutto’s Serenade for Alto Saxophone and Band.

Music by American composers or with American connections including Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Copland’s Quiet City, Williams’ Harry Potter Symphonic Suite, Sousa’s Semper Fidelis, Fillmore’s Lassus Trombone, Chance’s Elegy, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and Dvorak’s Finale from the New World Symphony. Chanteuse Michèle Kaye will sing a Cole Porter Medley and flutist Tawnya Moore will play Griffes’ Poem for Flute and Winds.

Our program combines music to herald the Christmas season with music from the world of dance including Bach's Wachet Auf, and arrangement of Veni Emmanuel, Holst's Christmas Morning for Brass, Marricone’s Gabriel's Oboe, a Slavonic Dance by Dvorak, Strauss' Dance of the Seven Veils, Shostakovich’s Polka from the ballet The Bolt, Byrd’s Earl of Oxford's March, Albeniz' Mallorca, Moncayo's Huapango, and several Leroy Anderson favourites.

Musique des compositeurs français y compris Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Susato’s Danserye, Germaine Tailleferre’s Suite, Planquette’s Marche Sambre et Meuse, Satie’s Gymnopedie, and music from Schönberg’s Les Miserables. Our soprano soloist Caroline Déry will sing Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen, three songs by Cecile Chaminade, and a medley of Édith Piaf songs. This concert will celebrate International Women’s Day.

Our season finale features some special favourites of the Wellington Winds including Strauss’ tone poem Don Juan, Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, and Leemans’ March of the Belgian Paratroopers. The Winds will perform Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals with the accompanying Ogden Nash poetry read by Ted Follows. Percussionist Mike Bronson will perform Jacob’s Concerto for Timpani and Winds.

Great collections of short pieces for winds: American composer Vincent Persichetti’s Divertimento for Band and German composer Ernst Toch’s Spiel für Bläser. Our featured soloist is Kathleen McLean, one of the most acclaimed bassoonists in North America, in von Weber’s Hungarian Fantasy. Also music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Grainger.

A programme of music inspired and derived from song including Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, Wagner's Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin, Strauss' Overture to Die Fledermaus, Fucik's Florentiner March, Alfred Reed's setting of Black is the colour of my true love’s hair, and John Barnes Chance's Variations on a Korean Folk Song. Soprano Sandra Tucker is our featured soloist in Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs. This concert will help raise funds for the Eating Disorders Awareness Coalition.

Our season finale presents music by composers from Great Britain and the colonies. From Britain, Vaughn-William's Toccata Marziale, Malcolm Arnold's Tam O'Shanter, and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1. From Australia, Grainger's Colonial Song and Londonderry Air. From Canada, Howard Cable's Snake Fence Country, Morley Calvert's Romantic Variations, Jack Sirulnikoff's Nova Scotia Fantasy, and the Halton Regimental March "The Campbells Are Comin". Also featured is the Cimarosa/Benjamin Concerto for Oboe with our own conductor laureate Michael Purves- Smith.

Our 30th season opening concerts feature our own Mike Hagedorn in Goedicke’s Concert Etude for Trumpet, Becky Maresciuc in the Rondo from the First Concerto for Clarinet by von Weber, and our saxophone section in Bencriscutto’s Concerto Grosso for Sax Quartet and Band. The program also features Strauss’ Radetsky March, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherezade.
